"The progressive income tax is the philosophy of altruism a la Immanuel Kant delivered politically/economically via the writings of Karl Marx -- it is IMMORAL and EVIL at the most basic philosophical level. . . . If you accept the premise that taxes should be "progressive" you have accepted the philosophy of altruism (self-sacrifice), which logically culminates in collectivism, and the attendant death and destruction that go with it." -- Space Coast Politics, July 2008. It is time to reinstitute the policies that created the American middle class after World War II. Restore progressive income tax with a top rate of 91 percent as under the Republican Eisenhower administration; favor universal participation in responsible home ownership and a family wage. Because no one has a natural birth entitlement to any greater share of the real wealth of society than anyone else, use the estate tax to help restore social balance at the end of each lifetime. The 50-50 statutory obligation hasn't got a thing to do with who ultimately pays the tax. Of course, that would be determined by relative wage elasticities of labor supply and labor demand.
